The best in Asia flew to Shanghai chasing one thing: glory (and vrs).
The Hero Esports Asian Champions League brought together the region's elite, a genuine test of where every team sits in the continental pecking order.
For SemperFi, it was a chance to prove Oceania belongs at the top table.
We didn't take it.
Drawn into Group B, the bracket opened with a statement. SemperFi dispatched Change The Game 2-1 in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals and looked like a team with something to say. Then Kaleido Gaming said it louder, shutting us out 2-0 and dropping us into the lower bracket.
From there, survival mode. One loss and you're on a plane home.
THUNDERdOWNUNDER made sure that's exactly what happened, taking the match 2-0 and ending our tournament.
9-12th. It's not what we came for. It's not what we're capable of. And everyone inside this organisation knows it.
The Oceanic contingent had a tough weekend across the board.
FlyQuest exited at the same stage in Group A.
THUNDERdOWNUNDER, the team that beat us, couldn't qualify either, falling to Lynn Vision Gaming in the Lower Bracket Final.
The ceiling in this region is rising fast, and the margin between competing and going deep is razor thin.
We learned from it. That matters more than the result.
That's Semper Fi.
Always Faithful.
